RacooNation Update: Lights, Abilities & The Watchtower

Devlog 2 introduces dynamic vehicle lighting, three new upgradeable abilities, day-cycle progression changes, and the Watchtower warning system for police encounters.

RacooNation Devlog 2 update with dynamic lighting, abilities, and Watchtower feature

Overview

This update focuses on game feel, progression clarity, and better decision-making tools for players. We added stronger visual feedback, expanded the ability system, and adjusted day-cycle bonuses to make upgrades more meaningful.

Dynamic Vehicle Lighting

All vehicles now use proper lighting effects. Police cars drive through with alternating red and blue sirens, decoy cars use warmer headlights, and the luxury seller car lights up as it enters the scene.

We also toned down police siren intensity. The lights remain visible during night cycles, but they are less harsh and more comfortable over longer sessions.

Three New Upgradeable Abilities

The abilities panel now includes three new multi-level upgrades, each powered by XP earned from Racoonizer levels:

  • Random Shit: unlocks bonus trash drops during Sand Storm events, with higher levels increasing total material gain.
  • A Mask of Raccoons: during Pink Sky events, raccoons can spawn baby raccoons when picking up trash; each level increases spawn chance.
  • ULTRA-RACOONIZER: boosts Racoonizer conversion output during Blue Moon nights, with stronger multipliers at higher levels.

Day Cycle Rebalance

Pink Sky, Blue Moon, and Sand Storm still appear visually in the day cycle, but gameplay bonuses are no longer active by default.

Players now unlock those bonuses through abilities. This creates cleaner progression choices and puts more weight on where XP is spent.

Watchtower Ability

The new Watchtower ability reveals incoming police markers on the day progression bar before the QTE trigger. It gives players time to prepare instead of reacting at the last second.

For one XP, it delivers high impact on run stability and planning.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a crash when clicking the disguise button during police encounters.
  • Fixed a broken custom cursor reference causing startup errors.
  • Fixed visual inconsistencies in the abilities panel.
